D*SCO(ep) is a free simulation game from wondermagenta. In this multimedia experience, you get to experience a unique concept album that basically gives you a great soundtrack, some seriously surreal visualizations, as well as fun minigames for you to check out. It combines a lot of different elements to deliver a story.

Experience a concept album

At its core, D*SCO(ep) is a concept album that contains six pop, lo-fi tracks. Each of these songs captures a particular emotion or moment. Aside from the visuals that accompany them on the home screen, there are also minigames that create a holistic experience. The story, though, is not clear and straightforward, leaving you to interpret it as you see fit.

In terms of graphics, it uses a pixelated art style and low-poly design choices, which surprisingly fit the lo-fi music. For controls, all actions are only made using just the mouse plus a single interaction key with the space bar. Together, the sounds, the visuals, and even the gameplay mechanic starts feeling like this app leads you into an autopilot state.

However, despite appearing like a low-quality indie game, it’s important to pay attention to the resolution of both the music and the graphics. Understanding this justifies the rather large file size that the game comes in. Still, a little below 1 Gb of storage memory shouldn’t be a problem for most systems. Lastly, expect a short playthrough of fewer than 30 minutes.

A weird must-try

To say that D*SCO(ep) is entirely a video game is inaccurate. It’s more of a total experience you’d want to try at least once. This app has some pretty good tracks, paired with a video game mechanic that makes it feel like you’re involved in the music video. It has a short playthrough, though, making it a fleeting experience with almost no replayability value.
